Construction has begun on the redevelopment of Taupo's popular Otumuheke Hot Stream at Spa Park.

Rising visitor numbers at the site have led to significant erosion, safety, and rubbish problems. The natural hot springs flow into the Waikato River and are of cultural importance to local iwi as an historic bathing and meeting place. A rare species of native fern also grows alongside the stream.

Redevelopment plans include a new toilet block, changing rooms, walking tracks and a bridge. The cultural and environmental significance of the site will be displayed on storyboards placed along the walking track.

The project plan has been created in collaboration with key partners, including the Patuiwi Reserve Trust, Taupo District Council and the Department of Conservation. Taupo Police and Waikato Regional Council have also been involved.

The prefect cottage amongst native bush available for rental from 6 to 18 months. Fully self contained and furnished with all kitchen amenities, a washing machine and full deck with sunny outdoor living, heat pump and a bonus in summer all windows have insect screens. Just bring your linen.
This cottage would suit a couple or a business person here on contract. We are looking for a person who is a cat lover, more details will be discussed.
In a very quiet residential neighbourhood the home and cottage is on a big section with many trees are surrounding the property, it feels like you are in native bush listening to the birds singing. Even though you are next to a home (which will also be rented for the next 6 months) you have your own private driveway and outside space, a full size deck with outdoor furniture and barbecue, the ambiance is truly great. The bonus is you are within walking distance of town 1km or a 7 minute walk into Taupo central. Weekends you will be close to mountain bike trails and Huka Falls for the walkers.
