The safety of the Residents of Acacia Cove is of the utmost importance to us. We are currently in the process of inspecting and servicing all smoke alarms in our existing dwellings to make sure they are all in working order.

Finally, our Residents and Staff’s health and wellbeing are equally important, and as the flu season is swiftly approaching we encourage our Residents and Staff to get their flu vaccinations at their earliest convenience. This can be done either on site by making an appointment with our Duty Nurse, or at their own doctor’s practice.

Maybe this can be a reminder for all the residents of Wattle Downs to make sure their smoke alarms are all in working order, and to book an appointment for their own flu vaccines at their health professional.

Police have concerns for a missing newborn baby who is understood to have been was taken from a south Auckland hospital by his mother.

Officers are asking for help to locate the two-day-old boy, who was removed from Middlemore Hospital but requires urgent medical assistance.

Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Hassall said the boy was believed to be with his mother, Dorothy Opetaia. He said the mum and baby were likely to be in the south Auckland area.

"I'm appealing for Dorothy or any family members to take the baby to any hospital straight away, delaying medical attention could cause him to become seriously ill."

Opposition to New Youth Prison in Weymouth

The Ministry is trying to change the designation from Care and Protection to a youth prison for up to 19 year olds and increasing the number of inmates by 50% in a densely populated area, with young families, schools and childcare facilities close by. Existing Youth Prisons are all sited away from densely populated residential areas. The Local Board are against it, our Local Auckland Councilors are against it, the residents association is against it. However OUR local MP for Manurewa LOUISA WALL has stated she is 100% in favour of it. I am trying to inform as many of her constituents as I can so they can see how she supports the local community (NOT). Needless to say she doesn't live in the immediate vicinity of the proposed prison. I don't remember seeing this proposed change in the local paper. The issue is currently being heard in the Environment Court and the neighbourhood are up against the resources of the Government, The Ministry for Children (and the local MP). There are already two prisons, a youth justice residence and drug treatment centre in the local area so we are not NIMBYs.
