Two new direct bus services from Waimakariri to central Christchurch will be free to use for the first two weeks.

The 91 Rangiora–City direct and 92 Kaiapoi–City direct will pick up passengers from park and ride locations in both towns, then travel without stopping to key hubs in central Christchurch. The afternoon return service will be the same.

The new services start on Monday, January 11.

Covid-19 may have been a difficult year for many, but it has been the key to success for one new Canterbury venture.

Cameron Knapp there had been an explosion in demand for sports cards since lockdown, which gave people time to dig out their old collections and get their children involved.

He opened Cards Plus, a dedicated sports card shop in Kaiapoi, last month with customers lined up waiting for the doors to open.

Business is booming for Greystone Wines, where general manager Nik Mavromatis is still celebrating featuring on the prestigious Top 100 Wine Discoveries list last month.

Visitors from around New Zealand were flocking to the wine district, and cellar door sales had risen 20 per cent compared to last year, he said.
