The city's urban dwellers are about to meet Manawatū's rural dags for the annual Rural Games in Palmerston North's square.
More than 25,000 people are expected to come to town over two days, with national and international audiences through media, social media and television coverage.
Five per cent of the $1 million event is supported the city council, but the games trust's chairman Margaret Kouvelis wants a greater contribution to the games.
Should council contribute more?

You Light Up My Life, sung by Debbie Boone, won the Oscar in 1977 and is just as popular today. Each song will be introduced by the movie to give the audience the feel of the era and then presented as a classic rendition.
The line-up includes James Bond’s Live And Let Die, Shallow from A Star Is Born and Happy from Despicable Me. Other enduring songs include Never On Sunday, Georgy Girl and The Way We Were.
A line-up of Manawatu’s top singers, with accompaniment and arrangement from Roger Buchanan will showcase the songs at The Globe, Saturday, March 7 at 7.30pm and Sunday, March 8 at 2.30pm.
Tickets $27.50 (adults), $25 (seniors/students).

She's noticed supermarkets and stores are adapting to the needs of the waste-free warrior, making it easier to adapt to the lifestyle.
