Vandals destroy native trees at scenic reserve to create dirt bike jumps
Native trees in a North Canterbury reserve have suffered “significant damage” at the hands of dirt bike enthusiasts.
Waimakariri District Council greenspace manager Grant McLeod said staff were dismayed to discover the destruction of the urban native bush, which saw trees felled to make way for bike tracks and jumps.
Matawai Park is protected and classed as a scenic reserve under the Reserves Management Act, meaning damaging or cutting down trees or any other vegetation is prohibited. Continue reading here.
