Classical Guitarist Matthew Marshall - Mulled Wine Concert.

Mary Gow from Mulled Wine Concerts in Paekakariki

New Zealand is a guitar culture and Kapiti guitar lovers of all ages will welcome a special
visitor to Paekakariki on Sunday 15 August.
Matthew Marshall is one of the finest classical guitarists in the Southern Hemisphere.

Acclaimed by the Dominion Post as "...a guitarist of superb technical accomplishment and a musician of perception and style", Marshall's performing career spans more than 35 years and two thousand performances across four continents.
He is passionate about contemporary music, especially by New Zealand composers and has commissioned or premiered more than 50 chamber and orchestral works for guitar.

Marshall works across a range of musical styles and genres and in addition to performing with world-ranked orchestras such as the Berlin Chamber Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra has worked with artists such as Dame Kate Harcourt and Sir John Trimmer and jazz musicians including Rodger Fox and others. He has recorded thirteen albums for solo guitar and has been a finalist in the Best Classical Artist category of the 2020 Aotearoa Music Awards.

A respected academic musician as well as a performer, he is currently Professor of Music and Head of IDEAschool at the Eastern Institute of Technology in Napier.
His appearance in Paekakariki will be the final one of a road trip covering 12 towns from Dunedin to Auckland. He enjoys coming to the Kapiti Coast - this will be his fourth appearance at a Mulled Wine Concert - and audiences here will enjoy his relaxed and friendly performing style.

His programme will cover music from eight countries and includes classics such as a Bach Prelude and a Pastorale from Benvenuto Terzi as well as some dynamic new music, from contemporary classisists and electronic experimentalists such as Milton Mermikides, Stephan Rak and Mario Gangi.

Matthew's uncle, famous ballet dancer and artist Sir Jon Trimmer will exhibit his paintings at the concert.
