I am not sure where Chilli is from but her owner Joy is very proud of her.
"This is my 25year old Chinchilla called Chilli. She is a Standard grey colour, and she is the sweetest wee girl, who loves her cuddles and snuggles with Mum, and loves pats and tickles from all of our family. Its very very rare to have a Chinchilla who loves to be touched as much as she does. She is a rescue who came from people who didn't know how to properly care for her. Her favorite treats are dried Red rose petals, dried rose buds and most of all, her Apple sticks. I love her so much."

He was singing up a storm in the pine trees before swooping down for a quick sniff. Bird #83 in 2022."

Whilst our crews work to repair the burst, we have arranged for a water tanker to go to the shopping centre at the corner of Te Hiko Street and Takapuwahia Drive. Affected residents can go and collect drinking water anytime from 8.30AM.
The burst water main has begun to drain water from the Titahi Bay drinking water reservoir. We are asking all residents in Titahi Bay to conserve water now to avoid emptying the reservoir before repairs are complete. You can do this by taking shorter showers, holding off doing the laundry or watering the garden.
Our team are on site now taking urgent action to get this pipe repaired as quickly as possible.
We will be providing regular updates on the status of repairs and the reservoir levels.

In the midst of a cost of living crisis, Porirua City Council has committed to paying its staff a fair wage.
Council staff have been paid the living wage since 2019, but last week council voted to formally apply for accreditation through Living Wage Movement Aotearoa New Zealand.

Council staff have been paid the living wage since 2019, but last week council voted to formally apply for accreditation through Living Wage Movement Aotearoa New Zealand.
It means council will continue to pay the living wage as it increases annually.
Porirua Mayor Anita Baker supports the Living Wage.
The current living wage is $22.75 an hour which will rise to $23.65 in September – more than 10% higher than the adult minimum wage of $21.20.

Since I arrived here at the SPCA, I have been in foster care with my lovely foster mum, who has showered me with love and affection, and has allowed me to let my personality flourish. I melt the hearts of everyone whenever they come in to see me, even my caregivers. My favourite things to do during my day, is to sleep outside on my bed on the verandah (even when it's a bit chilly), and when it's sunny, I like to follow the sun. I would love to go to a home where there may be a big backyard I can lay in during the day (when I'm allowed outside), or somewhere that gets a lot of sun during the day. Because of my long fur, I will need help maintaining it, especially as I get older. Luckily I enjoy having my fur brushed. I will love to be able to spend time with my new family during the day, helping out in the garden, or sitting with you on the couch watching a movie together. Because I am an older girl, I do have arthritis. This means that my joints can sometimes be a bit stiff. I may not do well in a home with a lot of stairs, and I may eventually need help getting up onto things. If you have room in your home and heart for me to live out my retirement years, please make an appointment to come in and meet me. I do come with medical waivers my new family will need to be made aware of, but we can chat about this when you come to meet me “

Personally, I don’t, but Philippa says it is because I am an unfeeling clod who does not care enough about our grandchildren. So I paid close attention to this week’s speaker, Chris Paice. He is a member of the Kāpiti Climate Change Action Group who claims no expertise but is a sincere activist who thinks it’s about time we oldies stood up to be counted.
Chris started by asking members whether Climate Change is actually happening. We all agreed, except for one brave member who isn’t sure. Ten years ago the result would likely have been different.
Across NZ as a whole, it appears we are less convinced, and the business sector, in particular, is too complacent.
Awareness of Global Warming began around 1988 when NASA scientist James Hansen warned Congress about it. Margaret Thatcher backed him up in 1989 in a fiery speech to the UN.
Chris proceeded to describe the trends in global surface temperature, CO2 concentration, and sea-level rise, which are the key indicators we have to worry about.
The culprits are the use of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) and the loss of CO2 garnering tree cover, especially in the tropics.
NZ will be badly affected by sea-level rise because we are an island with coastal populations. Adverse events will become much more frequent even on the most optimistic forecasts.
The problem is known and the evidence is there, but there are impediments to corrective action. There are lobby groups (eg the fossil fuel industry) sowing doubt, and vested interests both politically and individually.
Perhaps most importantly, short-term democratic cycles mean that politicians can postpone action and let some future governments deal with the problem. When horror scenarios are forecast for 2050 or 2100, it is hard to capture everyone’s attention, especially those of us who will be long dead.
The effects of a 1.5 or 2.0-degree rise in average surface temperature will be catastrophic. There will be a huge loss of plant and insect species, coral reef decline, and extreme heatwaves.
As individuals, there are some things we can do to help. We can be more aware, we can change our transport choices, we can ‘green’ our gardens, eat less meat and dairy, reduce our energy use, and compost our vegetable waste.
And of course, we can think more about our beautiful grandchildren.
