Calling all cat lovers!!

We are over flowing with cats & kittens in our care atm & I can't bare to see them having to stay in crates any long than necessary,

Do you have a spare room or a pet free home for them to roam?

All our kittys have various backgrounds & story's,

lost, friendly cats needing a secure, loving environment to be while we search for their family's to reunite then with

Abandoned or dumped - scared of people for many various reasons, but have once b4 been around people so just needing time & patience for them to go at their own pace about building trust for people again

Wild born kittens, these guys are starting from scratch with many milestones to still achieve, they can require alot more attention, like learning to just be normal happy playful trusting kittens, often suited well with family's with teens that are willing to take it slow but put their time into being consistent with them.

Perfectly socialised kittens requiring seperation whilst awaiting desexing appointments b4 put up for forever home adoptions,

All of these kittys will need to strictly stay indoors during there stay in your home, your own pets are OK, will just need a quiet private room closed off from other animals during their stay with you, kids OK, so long as they are supervised at all times around the kittys & old enough to understand & appreciate alot of these kittys are scared & have yet to recognise the love & care Us humans can show them so super important to not cause any undue stress & also to avoid any unnecessary injuries.
I'm available 24/7 for advice & questions & introduction involves through training as to whats required for each individual situation.

Please get in touch ASAP if you would like to give it a try, short term, long term, even sometimes just very briefly. We need your help!

Right now we have 2 kittys requiring urgent placements to get them out of crate situations,

1 is a newly caught cat from the Jville /tawa colony I'm working with, very shy very scared, requiring time & space to stretch her legs & allow her to settle into indoor life with food no longer having to be hunted & faught for. So far, very calm, will still have crate to help her feel safe & secure at this stage but be able to be open into a room to move when she felt comfortable to.. Spending time in the same room just going about your own thing is best at first for her to get used to your presence & to see we are no cause for fear for them, she may trust quickly, she may not, it's hard to predict however given its only day 1 in my care, I can already unzip soft crate she's in & put my hand in without being attacked or her trying to escape me. Have given a chin scratch with gloves incase & only showed a bit of fear to be expected but no aggression so far towards me.. Video below.

& we have Bear, Bear is our fluffy 5 month old burmilla /ragdoll x kitten, bear is booked in for desexing on the 2nd of August & once recovered will be up for forever home adoption. Unfortunately for bear, we have many female cats & kittens in our care atm & he is the only Male that's not yet desexed so sadly he's unable to continue to roam free with all the others at this stage as we don't need any extra pregnancy's!!

Bear is a lil shy but loves attention at the same time. We strongly believe that he is really gonna shine once away from all the other kittys here with a bit more 1 on 1 attention. He is litter trained & still a playful kitten so a lil time in your day for kitten play aswell as cuddles is required to keep bear happy & confident for a few weeks b4 ready for adoption. Vid below of shy bear also.

Let’s clear this up

Porirua City Council

There’s good news and bad news when it comes to recycling in Porirua. The good news is we’ve seen an increase in our recycling collections which means more people are recycling, we can re-use more items and less items should be going to landfill. This is great for the environment.

The bad news is that we’re also seeing more of the wrong things in our recycling collections that can’t be recycled. This is called recycling contamination and it can have an impact on the health and safety of hard-working recycling staff, who sort items by hand before it goes through the machines.

Staff safety is our top priority so, unfortunately, if there is too much contamination in a recycling load, we have no other choice but to send the whole truck load to landfill – which is disappointing for everyone involved.

Currently, the top five bad items/ contaminants in our recycling collections are:
• Used nappies and sanitary items
• Food and drink, including raw meat
• Metal items (including saucepans, coat hangers and electrical appliances)
• Hard plastics (not 1 and 2) such as takeaway containers, polystyrene and yoghurt pottles
• Soft plastics like chip packets, and other food wrappings.

Remember that our recycled waste has real value, it’s not rubbish. Our recycling gets sorted in Wellington and is mainly processed in New Zealand and re-used by businesses here, so it has a positive environmental and economic impact. We do need everyone’s help to do better.

Stick to the following basic rules and recycling is easy. The only things that should go in your mixed recycling bin are:
• Plastics with 1 or 2 on it (please don’t squash items)
• Aluminium or tin cans (tuck away sharp lids)
• Paper • Clean and dry cardboard. For glass recycling:
• Rinsed glass bottles and glass jars (but no lids).

Check our online recycling calendar to find out when to put your bins out and print a copy of your zone calendar at poriruacity.govt.nz/ recycling.

I am looking for a home with another dog that can help me grow and provide me with some support when life is scary. I have come so far since first arriving at SPCA and can't wait to continue learning more about the world in my home, my community and through training school. I am not the largest sibling in my litter though I will be medium to large once fully grown. All the more to love!
Being a young puppy I do require a home with someone around for parts of the day, this will help build my confidence around people, ensure I get lunch and help with general training."

If anyone spots an orca pod, they are asked to take note of location and direction of travel, to take pictures, and to call 0800 DOC HOT. If possible, people are asked to stay with the pod, while keeping a safe distance.

UPDATE
July 15 4:44pm

A rare Red Weather warning has been issued for Buller and Westland from 9pm tonight until early Saturday.

The current warning in place forecasts between 300mm and 400mm of rain to fall in the region, almost twice its monthly rainfall. Peak rates of 20-30mm per hour is set to fall on Friday afternoon.

MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris said that there would be significant impact on West Coast communities and transport links to other regions, with the possibility of roads becoming impassable and possibly isolating communities.

"We are asking people to act now to keep themselves and their whānau safe and to heed the advice of authorities," adds Ferris. "Anyone with travel plans in Westland and Buller on Friday and Saturday are urged to keep up to date with road information from Waka Kotahi NZTA. This is especially relevant due to the school holidays bringing more families to the West Coast."
