Wharf Road wharf, Parua Bay, closed
We will be consulting with the Parua Bay community on future options for the wharf at Wharf Road, which has been closed this week because its ageing structure has become unsafe.
Unfortunately a recent inspection found multiple safety issues stemming from a combination of the age of the wharf, the way it was constructed and the marine conditions. Investigations in 2018 and even February this year indicated it was still safe enough to be used as a fishing platform, but a new investigation was undertaken using drones and laser levels to document the condition of the wharf, and found that it has begun to deteriorate quickly.
The report we received this week recommended we close the wharf to keep people safe. We'll be working out the next steps in consultation with the community. A little more information here on our website.
