September Weather to-Date: Cool, Dry & Sunny

Murray from Paraparaumu

By mid-month Kāpiti and central NZ were still recording the slightly cooler temperatures as in August. The temperature only reached 15℃, with the longtime average for September being 16℃. It is possible, of course, for the difference to be made-up in the remaining two weeks should there be a weather change.

We also continue to experience August’s dry weather with only 23mm to-date, leaving nearly 50mm required to meet the longtime September average. I guess, If we had received all the forecast possible rain and thunderstorms that never arrived we wouldn’t be in this situation, however, it doesn’t look too good for the approaching summer with drought a possibility.

Sunshine hours are running slightly above average, and after months of unusually calm weather we have had some (equinoctial?) wind, typical for time of year.

Yesterday (Sept. 15) was our warmest day this season at 17℃, with today approaching 20℃!

The photo below was taken at sunset on Sept.9

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
