"Kaka, were essentially extinct here in Wellington for over 100 years. Then in 2002 a small group was translocated to our fenced sanctuary Zealandia. Now Kaka fly freely around the CBD. There are approximately 1000 birds now, each with its own personality.
They now also breed outside of Zealandia, and are seen throughout the city. These clever parrots are such entertainers, and are a photographers dream.?

We had a couple of banksia trees taken down behind our fence just over a year ago and the resulting firewood is free to anyone who wants to come and take it away. All cut into rings but needs splitting. It will involve a bit of handballing / barrowing around the house to get it to a vehicle.

Through the programme, he discovered his passion for the viticulture industry and was able to secure a cadetship opportunity with the help of his mentors and programme coordinator.
Now, almost six months into his job, he feels more confident and is grateful for the support he has received. Jack encourages other young people if given the opportunity to take the course and give things a go.

Currently I have a number of reserves, which, based on a three week loan period per reservation, range from 33 weeks (8 months) to over 10 years (for Burnam Wood). It really isn't practical to organize ones reading material even 8 months in advance, which leads me to conclude that people are missing out on access to library resources. The wait times are simply prohibitive.
This is concerning. Access to public facilities such as libraries and swimming pools is a mark of an equitable society. It's also irksome when one sees how willing KCDC is to spend money on pie in the sky projects like The Gateway and they cant find any additional funding for library books. Surely a few extra hundred for the most popular titles would not be that difficult to find. In the current high cost of living climate, reading a good book is a worthwhile activity. It doesn't use any power and it wont eat anything.

It's suitable for beginners as well as experienced artists and is all about creating imagery by mostly removing paint to 'excavate light'. Check out my website and scroll down to see this and my full programme of workshops and classes.
Here are the details:
In this workshop we will work with OPEN Acrylic paints for painting in the morning and charcoal for drawing in the afternoon. Reductive (or subtractive techniques as they are sometimes known) have been used by many artists over the years, such as Edgar Degas and Frank Auerbach, to create moody, expressive artworks. This technique starts with a completely dark covered surface and areas are gradually erased back to light, creating a range of values which allows form to emerge. As the piece develops, the charcoal or paint can be added back to intensify the low lights, bringing the work to completion through the interplay of reductive and additive mark making.
You will learn about slow drying OPEN acrylics which can be worked and reworked for extended periods without drying out. Your surface will be MDF board covered in a ground of textured Molding Paste – a minimally absorbent covering which makes paint removal easy and leaves wonderfully expressive marks. During the afternoon, you will work on paper with charcoal and learn how to excavate light with a variety of erasures, to create moody imagery.
Cost: $150
Location and Date: This workshop will take place on Saturday 22nd April 2023 from 10am – 4.30pm at Morag Stokes Art Studio, 14 Morepork Drive, Waikanae. Tel. 027 380 3282.
Lunch and refreshments: There will be a 50 minute lunch break. Bring your own packed lunch or visit one of the cafes in Waikanae town, a few minutes drive from the studio. Tea, instant coffee and nibbles will be provided for you to help yourself to throughout the day.
