Ghost Piano Trio plays in Paekakariki tomorrow. NEEDING AUDIENCE!!!

Mary Gow from Mulled Wine Concerts in Paekakariki

A “GHOSTLY” SOUND IN KAPITI?

Music aficionados everywhere appreciate and love the complexities of top-flight chamber music. This is music written for and played by small groups of musicians, each instrument having its own part to play within the whole, the result being the beautiful sound we hear. In earlier times “chamber” music was just that – music played in people's homes for their own enjoyment. Nowadays, chamber music is heard in concert halls and on recordings too, but it still works best when the musicians are close together and close to their audience to appreciate the live sound.

Ghost Trio is a group of such musicians – Monique Lapins (violin), Ken Ichinose (cello) and Gabriela Glapska (piano) and they will be appearing soon at the Paekakariki Memorial Hall as part of the 2022 Mulled Wine Concert series. Organiser Mary Gow is delighted to have such a fine group playing on the Kapiti Coast. “They are a fairly new group” she says “formed in 2019, they have been getting rave reviews wherever they go”. The group has recently toured nationwide for Chamber Music New Zealand and were commended for their elan and unfailing attention to musical detail.

The trio is international in outlook – Monique is the second violinist of the NZ String Quartet and lectures at the New Zealand School of Music, Ken is a graduate of the UK's Royal Academy of Music and Gabriela is from Poland, where she received her first degree, later studying for her Ph.D degree in music at the NZSM. She is the rehearsal pianist for the Royal New Zealand Ballet. The group will present an interesting mix of music at its concert on Sunday 19 June. The great masters will be presented: Beethoven and Brahms will be featured, of course, but along with these will be more modern composers – Eve de Castro-Robinson's “At Water's Birth” and the Piano Trio of Fauré.

“A feast of sound for the discerning listener” is how the organiser describes the concert. The venue will be the lovely sea-front Paekakariki Memorial Hall which offers stunning views of Kapiti Island to match the wonderful sounds within. AND FREE MULLED WINE.

Poll: If we want to reduce speeding, what do you think actually changes driver behaviour? 🛻🚨🚓

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In the Post's article on speeding penalties, the question is asked whether speeding fines are truly about road safety, or are they just a way to boost revenue for the Crown?

What do you think? Should speeding motorists receive speeding fines or demerit points?
