New Years Resolution - BE MORE CREATIVE.
New Years Resolution – BE MORE CREATIVE. If that’s you, read on.
I have a full programme of art workshops and classes to be held at my Kapiti Coast Studio during 2024. There’s something for complete beginners as well as experienced practicing artists. I work as an Artist Educator with @goldenartistcolors and they have helped my studio become a candy shop of painting and drawing products and other creative paraphernalia.
Artists who join my Tuesday morning ARTIST SESSIONS can help themselves to anything on the shelves for work on their own projects. Beginners are welcome at all my topic-based workshops, although some are more challenging than others to cater for people who’d like to develop their art practice. WORKING WITH COLOUR, for instance, goes a bit beyond a typical starter class for colour enthusiasts whereas GELLI-PLATE MONOPRINTING is great for absolute beginners to art. Some topics are inspired by well-known artists such as Charles Rennie MacIntosh and Gustav Klimt and deal with art nouveau design, botanical watermedia drawing and painting, and sparkly decorative bling. Others are very technique based like EXCAVATION LIGHT IN DRAWING AND PAINTING and AIRBRUSHING WITH HIGH FLOW. If finding your own style is what you're after, DRAWING IN THE STYLE OF…..PORTRAITS explores style diversity.
My workshop programme is on my website and is scheduled through to November 2024. Places are limited to 6 people per class and are usually snapped up well in advance, so do get in touch if you’d like to reserve a place. www.stokes.net.nz...

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.

Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
