Wellington Junior Chess Open
The Wellington Junior Chess open, held on Saturday 21st September at Amesbury School, Churton Park was a great success, with 70 competitors aged 5 to 18 years.
The event was organised by Northern Suburbs Social Chess Club for Kids and Co-hosted by Kapiti, Wellington & Upper Hutt Chess Clubs.
There were prizes in three divisions, Paraparaumu College student and Kapiti Chess Club member, Geoffrey Gunawan, took first place in the college section. In addition to Paraparaumu College, Kenakena and Raumati Beach schools were represented in the the 10 and under Primary section. In total, 25 schools within the Wellington region competed.
Following the success of the Wellington Junior Chess Open, future competitions are planned. If you are interested in taking part in these events let your school know or contact Kapiti Chess Club directly.”
