Based at CABK Coastlands office, this long awaited service provides the Kapiti community with up to date information and advocacy on the benefits and grants paid by Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ).
Kapiti’s diverse demographic, with its high percentage of elderly, low/fixed incomes, chronic health conditions/high health service users and young families includes a large number reliant on some sort of government support. This number is expected to grow as the economic impacts of COVID 19 are felt throughout the community. Many find navigating the WINZ process challenging and accessing the supportive, empathetic knowledgeable guidance provided by Kapiti BEST advocates can help ease what is often an already stressful time.

For further information or to make an appointment please call CABK Offices on 04 298 4944 or call in to our office on the first floor, Coastlands, between 9.00am and 4.00pm Monday - Friday.

Mulled Wine concert in Memorial Hall, Paekakariki. Sunday 26 July

A duo of fine singers, soprano Maaike Christie-Beekman and baritone Robert Tucker are accompanied by pianist David Barnard in this unusual and different presentation of a song cycle drawn from many different writers. Mary Gow, organiser of the Mulled Wine Concerts, now in its fourteenth season in Paekakariki acknowledges that this format represents a new departure for the series.

"We usually present classical chamber music", she says, "with the occasional concert in a lighter vein, like our last concert featuring the Rodger Fox Jazz Combo. But our audiences have come to expect something adventurous, something that expands their musical horizons and so we have decided to showcase these very talented singers who have put together a delightful programme which is just right for a winter Sunday".

Maaike Christie-Beekman studied in the Netherlands and in France. She holds a master's degree in vocal performance and has sung opera, oratorio and chamber music throughout Europe. On moving to New Zealand, she was a Resident Artist for the New Zealand Opera and has sung in many performances with orchestras and choirs around the country. Robert Tucker hails from Australia, but was raised in Dunedin. He is a current Freemasons Opera Scholar with New Zealand Opera. David Barnard is Head of Accompanying and Vocal Coaching at the New Zealand School of Music coordinating the team of staff accompanists and vocal coaches. He is widely known and respected in the choral world.

The programme draws on songs by Arthur Somervell who draws on the poetry of A.E. Housman's "A Shropshire Lad" contrasted with the deeply intoxicating writing of Kurt Weil and his songs, alongside dreamy duets by Fauré and Schubert and the Hollywood Songbook of Hanns Eisler. A great opportunity for this seldom heard repertoire to be performed and in the intimate setting it was originally intended for. Kapiti concertgoers are in for an enthralling time!

21 days ago I posted looking for accommodation. I have looked at heaps of places and have always been the unsuccessful applicant. So now I am starting to panic at finding a place to live.
I now have three weeks left to find a place otherwise I am going to be homeless. I am a single lady 65 yrs of age non-smoker, don’t drink and very quiet with a disability. I use a walking frame and mobility scooter locally and have a car to travel further, so need somewhere dry to keep the scooter. I would love to be in a rental long term, 2+ bedrooms is preferred for grandchildren who stay on weekends. I am currently in Otaki but anywhere in Kapiti would be terrific to stay near family. Hope there is a suitable place out there. Keen to look at all possibilities. Many thanks
