On Saturday afternoon, the leisure centre of Monaghan’s Kāpiti retirement village, Summerset on the Coast, was filled with family, friends and birthday decorations. Helium balloons spelling out “Jack” were up and pictures of him as a Navy man, in a wrestling ring and getting married were hung on walls and placed on tables.
