Water restrictions

Ian from Otaki District

I see Neighbourly says Ōtaki has water restrictions. Not so – nor for Kāpiti, which has the benefit of water meters. Here in Ōtaki we are part of the Wellington region (coming within GWRC) but once again, we get lumped in with everyone else.

Not all Ryman residents can claim viral internet sensation status – but Patrick Hogan Retirement Village’s Doug Lineham sure can!

It was during the live televised name reveal for Ryman Healthcare’s new Cambridge village on TVNZ’s Breakfast that presenter Matty McClean happened upon Doug.

The resulting hilarious sequence of dry, but complimentary-to-Ryman, one-liners left the audience calling for Doug to have his own show. One fan even touted him as the next PM!

What viewers didn’t know, however, was that behind the droll exterior, Doug was dealing with the loss of his beloved wife Jan.

Kāpiti is now surrounded by districts with water restrictions. While water shortages are predicted for a big part of the Wellington Region, we’re not anticipating any issues here.

But we still have a few things for you to consider:
- Always have an emergency supply of at least 140 litres per person on hand (supply for seven days).
- Be aware of high fire risk warnings – there’s currently one in place for Greater Wellington's Queen Elizabeth Park in Paekākāriki.
- Take care if you're doing anything that could create a spark, particularly at the hottest and driest time of the day (after 2pm). This includes using mowers, welders, and other powered tools.
- Watch where you park vehicles or use motorbikes – hot exhausts can set fire to grass easily in dry conditions.

Make sure you know your fire risk 👉🏼 www.kapiticoast.govt.nz...
