MenzShed Kapiti has a used magnifier with a lamp available for sale. It could be useful for working on small items such as mechanical watches and I'm sure I've seen lamps like this in jewellers' shops. Could also be useful to someone with visual impairment for reading.

This weeks question is: What matters most as we plan for our district's future?
As a community, we need to decide how we preserve the things we love most about our district while investing in what best serves the needs of our people, now and in the future. There are a number of ways to have your say: online at whatmattersmost.kapiticoast.govt.nz, visit your local library or Council service centre or come and see us at a pop-up event.

Hakaraia, 17, of Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Kapumanawawhiti, spent much of her childhood on set, watching her mother, producer and director Libby Hakaraia, at work, seeing ideas unfold and come to life on screen.
It wasn’t until she created her own film at age 13 that “it really took off” for the Ōtaki teen.
Māori art and film is fostered and celebrated in Ōtaki at Māoriland. Founded by Hakaraia’s mum in 2014 as an annual film festival, Māoriland has since grown to become a hub for indigenous creators from around the country.
Hakaraia, who is Year 12 at Te Kura-ā-Iwi o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano in Ōtaki, recently won the innovation award at the GirlBoss Awards for her work with Ngā Pakiaka, Māoriland's collective of rangatahi filmmakers.
