Neighbours' Day (20-30 March 2021) is all about building new connections and holding fun, local get-togethers to meet people that live in your community.

The most popular way is an 'Over the Fence Cuppa' to get to know your neighbours a little better. Knowing the people near you strengthens our community ties, and creates safer and more resilient communities.

If you'd like to run a 'Over the Fence Cuppa' or local event and receive a goodie bag from Council to help, please email Neighbours.Day@kapiticoast.govt.nz by 17 March.

Hosts can go in to a draw to win a 105L water tank and a Grab & Go bag donated by Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO). With COVID-19 still a potential risk, in-person events will only go ahead under Alert Levels 1 and 2.

As cheques are not going to be an option for much longer we are looking at Ef Pos options for our business. I have had various quotes but most only offer a three year contract. Due to Covid and the economic situation I do not want to get locked into a three year contract. We do not want a service that offers credit, just simple ef pos facilities. Just wondering if there are any other small businesses that are using an ef pos machine without being tied into a lengthy contract. Cheers Joyce

"Nice to see a grey warbler/riroriro (Gerygone igata) in the weekend. I'm not hearing them as much now the cicadas have cranked themselves up to full volume. It's probably the end of the breeding season as well. I was interested to read that only the males do the summer warbling, apparently the females only have a short chirp call. Don't ask me why this turkey is hanging upside down - there's always one."

Hey Neighbourly folk, remember there is a fire ban on.
It includes Kapiti Coast, Porirua, Wellington City and the Hutt Valley. Principal Rural Fire Officer Craig Cottrill says this means anyone wanting to light an outdoor fire will need to apply for a permit and follow the conditions listed on their permit.
"The ground is getting drier and fire danger has increased,” he says.
“The dry vegetation acts as fuel for a wildfire, meaning if a wildfire did start it could spread very quickly. We’ve seen this with a few vegetation fires in the area recently, including one in Makara last month where firefighters and helicopters worked hard over two days to put it out.”
