"My neighbour Ann, a retired special ed teacher, goes the extra mile for her community. On her neighbourhood walks she notices blocked drains, or dangerous pavements on school routes and spends time phoning the Council to get them fixed. She is part of a local group that petitioned for new school crossings on Takanini School Road. She volunteers at the local school for free maths tuition. She sets a really great example of looking out for her community and makes the world a better place."

It is yet again another total waste of Ratepayers money. It has some possibly useful stuff to them about governance and relations between the executive and the councillors but it doesn't at all cover communications between the KCDC and the ratepayers which is at the core of most of their failures. KCDC simply do not listen to ratepayers wishes. They are not our servants. The tail is wagging the ratepayer dog.
It also does not address at all their financial affairs. They are out of touch with the wishes of the community advising us they have done the hard yards in cutting costs and pruning the nice to haves, yet proposing inflicting us with yet another rates rise which in these dire financial times is immoral. Still sitting there in the budget for example and costing $4.4m, is the Kapiti Gateway - a monument to what?
KCDC is the 2nd most indebted Council in NZ yet they spend our money constantly on many projects that if put to the ratepayers would get a resounding no.
Would anyone be able to recommend a roofer to do some guttering and roofing fixes please?

He sculpted, molded and cast the whole thing by hand, with just trial and error to guide him. How cool is that? I found it so inspiring. Chatting to him made me want to give it a go myself. I reckon I might start with something a little simpler first, however. Those Acanthus leaves look so good... but also quite difficult! Maybe an art deco rose, to match my 30s house? Anyway, I'd love to hear from anyone else whose created something lovely for their homes from scratch. Drop me a line and let me know what DIY magic you've been up to!
