Kia Ora, I’m Reez, your local Taranaki Champ for Neighbours Aotearoa 2025.
What’s Neighbours you ask? Neighbours Aotearoa is a nationwide community-led initiative asking everyone to get to know their neighbours a little better over the month of March - and the rest of the year!
What can you do to get involved? Planning an event for your neighbourhood! Do you love a BBQ? A street party? What about a community garden or little library in front of your house? If those sorts of things aren’t your jam, we can help with loads of low cost to no cost ideas. Starting a street wide facebook page to keep up to date to things happening around your neighbourhood, or sharing tools, skills, or items you are looking to exchange or give away. The ideas are endless (even offering to help bring your neighbours bin in or mow their lawn once in a while), it’s all about fostering a lasting connection, and feeling happier and safer in your neighbourhoods.

We would love if people would submit their ideas on how they will engage with their neighbours (no matter how big or small the interaction is) via the Neighbours Aotearoa website - so we can see all of the awesome ways people are connecting, and share those ideas in following years. It also helps us to keep the movement going in terms of future funding for the project.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions, or want help making an idea come to fruition. We have plenty of resources to help you get your idea off the ground!

***Joe Sartori was production manager at Studio Dybka Tichy in Parramatta, NSW, from 1972-1980.
The studio had been set up by Rudolf Dybka and Vladimir Tichy in late 1969 or 1970. Tichy, who had trained in Prague as a ceramic sculptor and worked in Czech porcelain factories, was head designer.

Under Sartori's direction, the studio produced architectural murals, handmade tiles and a range of distinctive and colourful decorative and functional pottery, mostly supplied to the Grace Brothers and Waltons department stores. When the Studio was taken over by Norbrick in 1980, Sartori moved to Queensland and set up his own pottery there, continuing to make work in a similar style. His signature is an incised or painted JS or J. Sartori.

Janet Lovelock from Papanui, Christchurch has won the category of Best Floral Garden for her stunning floral garden in this small space. Congratulations, Janet!

Janet and her husband both enjoy tending to their garden and shared this about their garden:
"We are both in our eighties and have lived in the Ngaio Marsh Retirement Village for three and a half years. Our passion for gardening spans many years. We change our display every six months to cover Spring and Summer.
The residents in the village regularly bring their visitors to see our display and take plenty of photographs. When you hear comments such as “It lifts my spirits when I get to this corner” you realise how much it means to everyone. We will continue to create a beautiful garden for as long as we are able."
