Te Ara Hou Charitable Trust - All Heart Waitara
Have you heard of this Organisations?? Do you know where they are??
I guess that the Waitara kind of gives it away. Yes, they are in the main street of Waitara at 56 McLean Street.

What are they about? They are a Profit for Purpose store – their tag line is “We will do our best in ensuring that the funds raised from the purchases you make are invested purposefully into serving our people and planet.”
All Heart New Zealand Projects pride themselves on redirecting 90% of corporate items from landfill – currently that is 5.8Million+kgs and funds saved or raised $17.6Million. Sounds like big numbers!

How do they do that? – They promote a circular economy by repurposing unwanted corporate resources, making a positive environmental impact. Their approach supports partner organisations and aims to raise sustainability standards for a sustainable future. They hold accreditations and memberships with Akina Impact Suppliers, Auckland Business Chamber, Sustainable Business Council, Sustainable Business Network, Volunteering Auckland, and Zero Waste Network.

What do they Offer? A practical framework that lets any corporate anywhere, divert anything from landfill.

Putting People First
Their approach to corporate social responsibility is centred on empowering communities, reducing poverty and increasing access to education, while protecting the earth.

What do they redirect to the Waitara Store?
Office Furniture, Tech Equipment, Soft Furnishings, Stationery, Hospitality goods, Corporate uniforms, End of Line Products, Cutlery / Kitchenware, Textiles.
Their Impact partnerships include nationwide business like; Mitre 10, The Warehouse Group, AA Insurance, Air New Zealand, Bunnings, Fonterra, NZ Safety Blackwoods, Countdown/Woolworths, Waste Management, NZPost, and Make a Wish New Zealand; to name some of the business connections that we have locally.

Currently Deena, the Store Manager, is supported by one other staff member and a couple of volunteers who pop in or can be called upon. It would be absolutely fabulous if there was someone interested in learning retail skills, who could offer a couple of hours a week. This would be great also for someone who is keen to work in a very supportive workplace, or someone wanting to return to work, or equally someone who is interested in environmental sustainability.
Deena is very welcoming and always keen to have new people join the team and there are a variety of skills to be learnt or to be utilized in the work that is being done in this space.

My first visit to the All Heart Store and meeting with Deena, I left having purchased a new (to me) office chair – which is so very comfortable and high-end quality at an incredibly reasonable price and a couple of metal filing containers, a large tin of coffee, and milo and large box of tea. It is definitely worth a visit – stocks are always changing, and a new delivery of stock is expected next week. Check it out and tell Deena you read the article.

If you are interested to learn more about the work of All Heart Waitara listen to Volly Voices on Access Radio 104.4FM on Sunday 12th May at 2pm and repeated on May 19th also at 2pm where Deena Coster –chats about what is happening in store and how they support the community locally.

Have you heard of this Organisation??

They are here in New Plymouth, and they are more than their shop in Fitzroy. In South Taranaki the shop is in High Street, Hawera. These shops are there to help support the amazing work that they do in the community to support those in need – including providing clothing and furniture assistance, providing weekly community meals as well as providing support for individuals and families experiencing hardship.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic lay organisation inspired by the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their Mission is to work to provide person to person, practical and effective help to those in need, sharing their burdens and joys, sewing seeds of hope and promoting human dignity, justice and self-sufficiency, working in a caring and practical manner to promote human dignity and justice through personal contact with those in need.

When I started my investigation for this column the name of the Founder Frederic Ozanam rang a bell and so checked and yes Ozanam house in Palmerston North was the brainchild of Palmerston North society members who when doing their hospital visits realized that there was a need for a home where relatives of out-of-town patients could stay. So in 1967 they purchased a comfortable four bedroomed home a few meters from the hospital and as we know this is still going – now operated by and independent trust board. However, this shows the compassion the Organisation and its people have for others.

In the words of the Founder Federic Ozanam “In my life I want to become better and do a little good”.

Locally here in Taranaki there has been a conference for over 100 years and are very fortunate to have two op shops operated by St Vincent de Paul Hawera and Fitzroy which are both open Monday – Friday 10am – 3.00pm. The funds raised contribute to the amazing work that is done in the community as well as repurpose items for another life.

The community meal on a Tuesday night at St Joseph’s Hall is another project that St Vincent de Paul provides. This is a project that the younger members of the society, young Vinnies participate in, and you can see them at work in the kitchen and serving.

The amazing team also supports other community organisations who are helping those who need extra support. They are always keen to have new people to join the team and there are a variety of skills to be learnt or to be utilized in the work that these amazing people achieve for our community.

If you are interested to learn more about the work of St Vincent de Paul listen to Volly Voices on Access Radio 104.4FM on April 28th at 2pm and repeated on May 5th also at 2pm where Kevin Hartfield - coordinator chats about their work locally.

For the uninitiated, lawn bowls may just look like a bunch of people throwing balls up and down a flat piece of grass.

But for Evelyn Page Retirement Village resident Leonie, it is a game of skill that has brought her 40 years of friendship, camaraderie and many fun-filled experiences and memories.

So much so, that she has dedicated most of the last 20-plus years to umpiring the game. It is her way of giving back, she says, and now she is lending those skills to the upcoming trans-Tasman inter-village Ryman Roll Up.

Neighbourly is aware that online safety is front of mind for members, and scams are getting more tricky to spot. So we thought we'd share some tips from Netsafe to keep you informed about what to avoid and where to get help.

Where do scams take place?
Over the phone, via text message, via email, online or even in person.

What red flags should you be looking out for? Ask yourself these questions...
- Were you expecting this message? or was it out of the blue?
- Are they saying there's a problem which you didn't anticipate?
- Are you having to give money over?
- Are you being rushed?
- Are you being told to click on a link or go to an unfamiliar website?
- Are you being asked to share personal info or passwords?
- Are you being asked to pay in a strange way like wire transfer, gift cards, etc
- Does something not feel right? Do you feel confused?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, it's best to stop communicating and seek support. But if you've already given over money, contact your bank immediately.

You can check if it's a scam by contacting |Netsafe|:
- Toll-free on 0508 NETSAFE (0508 638 723) or +6496660840 if calling from outside New Zealand
- Emailing help@netsafe.org.nz

If you're pretty sure it's a scam, make a report at netsafe.org.nz

Remember Neighbourly is a free service for neighbours so we won't ask you for money or for your password. All emails will come from noreply@neighbourly.co.nz - so feel free to get in touch if you're unsure of something!

Hope this helps you, neighbours!

In modern sleep solutions, adjustable beds have gained significant attention.

They are known for their promise of enhanced comfort and customizable sleeping positions.

These innovative sleep systems have captured the interest of people who value their personalized comfort and want to improve their sleep.

Let’s explore the world of adjustable beds and look at the expectations and reality to decide whether these beds live up to the hype.

What is an Adjustable Bed?

An adjustable bed is often referred to as an adjustable bed base.

It’s a sleep system that allows users to elevate various mattress parts to create customized sleeping positions. These beds are equipped with motorized mechanisms that let users adjust the angle of their head, feet, and body alignment.

The primary purpose of adjustable beds is to provide comfort and reduce common sleep-related issues like snoring, acid reflux, and back pain.

Adjustable Beds: Do They Help?

Adjustable beds offer a promising solution for improved sleep quality and enhanced comfort.

Let’s look at the expectations vs. reality regarding whether adjustable beds help improve sleep quality.

Expectations: Improved Sleep Quality and Health

Adjustable beds are touted as a solution to various sleep-related problems.

These beds are often marketed to reduce discomfort by allowing users to find their optimal sleeping position. Be it elevated for breathing ease or with legs raised for improved circulation.

With the ability to customise sleeping positions by elevating different parts of the mattress, these beds can alleviate common sleep-related issues such as snoring, acid reflux, and back pain.

Whether adjustable beds truly help can be answered with a resounding yes.

Reality: Evidence-Based Benefits

The reality aligns with the expectations.

Adjusting the bed to provide better support for specific body areas can reduce chronic pain and improve comfort during sleep.

How to Choose an Adjustable Bed?

With various available options, choosing the right adjustable bed requires careful consideration.

Here are some factors to keep in mind:

Motor Quality and Noise. Opt for beds with high-quality motors that operate. Noisy mechanisms can disrupt your sleep and lead to frustration.

Mattress Compatibility. Ensure the adjustable bed is compatible with your existing mattress, or choose one that pairs well.

Number of Adjustable Zones. Look for beds that allow you to adjust different areas for personalised comfort.

More Features. Some adjustable beds include massage settings, USB ports, and under-bed lighting. Decide if these features are important to you.

Warranty and Customer Reviews. Research the manufacturer's warranty and read customer reviews to get insights into real-world experiences.

Adjustable Bed vs. Regular Beds: A Comparison

The differences go beyond aesthetics when comparing adjustable beds to regular beds.

Adjustable beds offer versatility and customisation that traditional beds often cannot match. The ability to adjust the angle of the head and feet can cater to specific sleep preferences and address various health concerns like snoring, acid reflux, and back pain.

Regular beds provide a fixed sleeping surface without the adaptability that adjustable beds offer.

While adjustable beds offer personalised comfort and targeted support, traditional beds still have their place, especially for individuals with simpler sleep needs.

Expectations: Enhanced Comfort and Flexibility

The primary expectation when comparing adjustable beds to regular beds is that the former offers enhanced comfort and flexibility.

The ability to customise your sleeping position is believed to be a game-changer, particularly for those with specific health concerns or preferences.

Reality: Personalized Comfort and Support

The reality is that adjustable beds do indeed provide a level of comfort and support that traditional beds often can't match.

The adjustability factor can cater to different sleeping positions and reduce discomfort, improving sleep quality and well-being.

Reduce Tension and Sleep Better

In the world of sleep solutions, adjustable beds have proven to be more than a marketing gimmick.

When searching for top-notch adjustable beds in New Zealand, Beds4U is your ultimate choice.

With their thoughtfully curated collection of adjustable beds, experience unmatched comfort and support for a revitalising night's sleep.

Discover Beds4U's range for a refreshing and pain-free start to your mornings.
