Wellington Youth Choir and NPGHS Jubilate Choir Concert

Chris from Lynmouth - Moturoa

This coming Saturday 16th August, Methodist Centre at 2pm there will be a fabulous choir concert featuring two Youth Choirs.
The Wellington Youth Choir is directed by former Taranaki musician Rowan Johnston. The choir represents singers from throughout the Wellington region aged 18 - 25 and has earned a reputation for excellent singing and innovative programming. They have, in the last 12 months, presented concerts to acclaim and sellout audiences including a concert entirely made up of new works by Wahine and Non-binary composers throughout Aotearoa (including a work by New Plymouth composer Juliet Woller). This concert was recorded by SOUNZ Centre for NZ Music. They staged the choral oratorio “Considering Matthew Shepard” to a standing ovation and most recently their concert “Puanga” featuring all works in Te Reo Maori. This concert was in collaboration with Taonga Puoro specialist Horomona Horo. Wellington Youth Choir is excited to be able to present a concert in New Plymouth’s Methodist Centre (Whiteley Church) in collaboration with the wonderful Jubilate Choir from New Plymouth Girls’ High School on Saturday 16 August, 2pm. Entry is by Koha at the door.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
