Should more schools change the way they teach children to read?
A community meeting in Motueka on Wednesday evening is due to feature discussion with a Massey University professor, whose research shows a more phonics-based approach is needed to teaching literacy in schools. Parents lobbying nationwide for the change to "structured literacy", which teaches reading and writing consecutively, say phonics books should replace the "Ready to Read" books most schools use to help children learn to read. Do you agree?

Hi, I'm Simon .... a 44 yr old wheelchair user who wants to meet others in a similar position as myself (particularly a woman). I've been a sole parent now for almost 18 years and my son has just left the nest, so I thought it was time to start on the next stage of my life. I have cerebral palsy that effects just my legs (kinda the reason I can't walk) sooooooo if any of you are interested in getting to know me, flick me a message. I enjoy spending time with my son when he comes to visit and my pets (1 cat and 2 birds), I also enjoy building computers as well as a bit of gaming/watching TV too.
