The options for doing so are endless! Being kind doesn’t have to cost a thing, after all a smile is free.
For those who want to go the extra mile, here’s some other ideas:
* take a gift over to new neighbours and introduce yourself,
* build a free community library for your street,
* buy extra kai at the grocery store to donate to a food bank,
* bring treats into work for colleagues,
* send an encouraging text to someone who needs it,
* let a car into the traffic ahead of you,
* write positive messages in chalk on sidewalks around your neighbourhood,
* surprise loved ones with a visit.

Please meet Alyce Read of Nelson, who uses her houseplant collection to connect with others and help them overcome mental health challenges. "You wouldn’t take a plant and put it in a dark corner and fail to water it and expect it to thrive. So we should look at ourselves that way," she says. "If we are not thriving in the way that we would wish, it might not be any fault of ours, it might be the conditions that we are under."

As a proud Nelson local, Jackie is thrilled to be able to step into a role that allows her to be a part of her community. And drawing on 25 years of experience in Aged Care, it’s a profession that she truly has a passion for.
Jackie believes that great care means relaxed residents and families, and a team of staff that are engaged and happy. It’s that belief in the human side of care that drew Jackie to Green Gables.
“Our clinical care is excellent, but we believe in going beyond the standard medical model to cater to the holistic needs of our residents, so it’s all about the lifestyle - the beautiful environment, dining experience and adding all the extra touches. That, I believe, is what sets us apart.” she says.

Accommodation is in a fully furnished, cozy and comfortable independent cottage with its own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and laundry.
The Cottage is offered rent free in exchange for 18 hours work per week. Electricity, gas and unlimited fast internet are included.
Duties include housework, cleaning, ironing, lawn mowing, general gardening and caring for our large friendly dog whenever we are away – sometimes at weekends
The position would suit a fit and energetic single lady who would appreciate the beautiful and tranquil setting on the Waimea Inlet. Flexibility is critical, so the position would be best suited to someone without other employment commitments. Having your own dog is a possibility.
The property has extensive gardens, a swimming pool and sauna to enjoy.
