This one is pretty simple. You're a Neighbourly member so connecting with your community is obviously pretty important to you. So this tip is more of a challenge; this year (or this weekend!) make it your mission to meet someone new living near you.

Here's a few things you can do to get you started:
- use the Neighbours Directory to find neighbours on your street.
- introduce yourself on Neighbourly to those living in your neighbourhood. Just a few words about yourself and what brought you here.
- Give something away or sell something! A Neighbourly exchange gives you a chance to meet someone new.
- just head out the door and knock on someone else's!
______
Remember 86% of Kiwis want to get to know their neighbours better, but just don't see them around much (71%). Take the first step!

It's that time of year again when we start to prepare for the beginning of a school year and after-school activities. When accidents happen, teeth can sometimes be completely knocked out. Many teeth can be replaced after being knocked out and some will survive very well after this.

The longer the tooth is out of the socket the poorer the chance it has of surviving long term.
First Aid for knocked out teeth :
• Replace the tooth into its socket as soon as possible. This can be done by another person or the injured person themselves.
• Hold the tooth by the crown, ensure that there is no dirt or debris on the root and wash briefly under water.
• Gently push the tooth back into its socket.
• Hold the tooth in place by biting gently on a piece of cloth and see your dentist immediately.

Access Dental (located next to Nelson Hospital) offer free dental care for Under 18's. If your teenager hasn't seen a dentist in a while book in now for a check up.

Stu Hunt, Editor of the Nelson Leader, started a thread about Freedom Camping during which he assured me (in writing) that the community concerns expressed would be the focus of a Leader article, January 12.

When the article was published it turned out to be a solid defence of the Nelson City Council and its position and did not mention any of the comments on the thread Editor Stu Hunt started on Neighbourly or ‘focus’, as he had advised it would, on the community’s concerns – but quite the opposite

He then put a final post up defending his one-sided decision (and the misinformation he gave me) and now I find the thread appears to have been closed to further comments – giving Stu Hunt and the Leader the last laugh on all of us who participated (foolishly) in his ‘poll’.

I am concerned Neighbourly is not really the community serving project it is touted as but really an ‘interesting’ advertising vehicle for Fairfax (the proprietors of it) and we members are being duped.

Can Stu Hunt and the Leader explain:

Why the assurance its article on Freedom Camping would focus on the community concerns expressed throughout Stu’s thread was not met?

How is it that a Fairfax editor can close a thread as soon as it becomes uncomfortable for Fairfax or that editor?

Is this free speech in Fairfax’s mind/s?
