Napier residents told to think twice before flushing toilets
Treated sewage has been poured into a local estuary by Napier City Council again due to the city's aged wastewater system failing to cope.
The council said rainfall over the past two days had put the city's wastewater system under "intense pressure", with more than 90mm falling in the 24 hours to midnight on Wednesday.
The average rainfall for the whole month September was 58mm. Yesterday the council asked residents to flush toilets only when necessary as a means to ease the pressure. Read more here.
