Napier Civic Choir (NCC) is a non-auditioned all-comers choir of 80 – 90 enthusiastic singers comprising a wide age group – from 10 secondary school-aged students through to senior citizens. The Choir performs concerts 4 weekends a year, meeting weekly to rehearse. Established in 1968, Napier Civic Choir’s principal purpose is the performance of a varied choral repertoire of music by great composers. A typical weekend of concerts consists of 2 choral concerts and one orchestral concert. Choral concerts are performed with members of Hawke’s Bay Orchestra. Visiting orchestral members from Wellington augment the orchestra, providing performance support, tutoring and example to a high standard. Opportunity is made of orchestral players’ skill and attendance by including an orchestral concert during each concert weekend that is organised, managed and funded by the choir. The choral programmes include invited national and international vocal soloists and the Choir’s orchestral concerts feature NZ leading solo instrumentalists.
