The annual Queenstown and Wānaka fireworks and music performances were cancelled due to the complexities of planning events under the new traffic light system, Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said.

She hoped residents and visitors to the district would still support local businesses, restaurants and bars as they ring in 2022.
