The warning was prompted by three lifestyle block fires in the Karaka and Clevedon areas in recent weeks, which were caused by sparks from machinery.
The drought Auckland is currently experiencing is "unusual", Devlin said, adding that while there had been a bit of rain, it wasn't enough to lower the fire risk.
Anyone who sees smoke should dial 111.
