We are keeping the sites as safe as possible while the weather and temperatures improve enough for permanent repairs.
This includes weekly checks when contractors are sweeping or removing loose chip as required.
Some sites have continued to lose chip quite rapidly after a sweep. This can make it look like they have not been swept. We arrange re-sweeps when that happens.
We have put temporary traffic management in place for the high speed rural environments where this happened, with signs warning drivers of the hazard and announcing speed limits.
Under the terms of our contracts, the cost of this management and safety work, and the final permanent repairs, are being carried by the relevant contractors – not Council or the ratepayer.
We are investigating the reason for these failures so we can avoid these situations in future.

Scams are becoming more sophisticated and far reaching, anyone can be caught by them, and in New Zealand we don’t have enough protections for keeping people safe.
At CAB, we regularly help members of the public with issues to do with scams. People come to us when they need help to know if something is a scam, or when they have been affected by a scam. We see the impacts scams can cause for their victims - the hardship and distress.
This is why we’re supporting the call for action to make New Zealanders safer from scams. Our friends at Consumer NZ are running a petition which asks for:
Banks to refund scam victims for authorised and unauthorised scam payments, unless the victim has been grossly negligent.
A national anti-scam framework requiring banks, telcos and digital platforms to take action to address scams and outlining their liability if they fail to meet their obligations.
A centralised anti-scam centre where relevant organisations work together to keep us safe.
If you would like to support this campaign by signing the Consumer NZ petition, you can do that here:

The Saturday morning Service Desk at the Central Library will continue as per usual.
As from Wednesday 4 September, a JP Service Desk will operate at the Central Library on both Wednesday and Thursday mornings, 9.30 am until 12.00 noon in addition to the Saturday morning session.
As previously posted, there are also JP Service Desks at Tikipunga Library on Monday and Wednesday mornings 9.30 am - 12 noon, Onerahi Library on Thursdays 2.00 - 4.00 pm and Ruakaka Library on Saturdays 10.00 - 11.00 am.
A summary document listing the locations and times is attached
No appointment is necessary when coming to a Service Desk. However, if you need a JP outside of these Service Desk hours, you will need to find one by going to justiceofthepeace.org.nz. Use the Quick Find function by typing in a/your suburb and clicking "Search". This will bring up a list of Justices of the Peace in that location with their contact details and availability. You will then need to contact the JP and arrange an appointment.

It may be fine now but in a few years trees can block out light or views for neighbours.
Do you think neighbours should ask before they go ahead and plant these?
