South Wairarapa Transfer Stations and Recycling Centres in Level 3
• Martinborough Transfer Station is open for all services, with extended hours for this first week, in anticipation of high demand. Opening hours will be from 10:00am to 4:00pm, Tuesday 28 April through to Sunday 3 May. Hours will return to normal the following week (beginning 4 May).
For the safety of the transfer station staff, contactless payment is being implemented. Payment by PIN entry is acceptable for now. Paywave will be the only acceptable way of paying, once this is in place. Cash payments will not be accepted.
Rural residents dropping off Council rubbish bags only can do so for no extra charge on entry.
• Featherston and Greytown Recycling Centres are open with extended hours in anticipation of the backlog. Both centres will be open for recycling and greenwaste Tuesday 28 April through to Friday 1 May from 11:00am to 3:30pm. Opening days and times will return to normal the following week (beginning 4 May).
Please be patient and stay in your vehicles if there are queues. In Level 3, people are still advised to limit unnecessary travel. Where possible, please combine your trip to the transfer station with other essential travel.
Also, a reminder that urban kerbside rubbish and recycling collections this week are one day later due to the Anzac Public Holiday that was on Monday.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
60.4% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
24% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
15.6% ... It is complicated
