Sandra is recognized both nationally and internationally as a successful education leader.

She was recipient of the New Zealand member of New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2020 Queens Birthday Honours, which recognized her contribution to education in New Zealand.

She has several other national awards for her contribution to education and other communities.
