As the Government moves to double employees' sick leave entitlements, a man is calling for a law change to go even further – and allow workers to take a paid day off on their birthday.
When Clifford Hallett blows out the candles on his cake in a couple of weeks, he'll likely wish for an extra leave day to celebrate.
Hallett has launched a petition to Parliament requesting it pass legislation to give all employees that right.

Tell us what you think.

Recently we have been taking care of (fixing) curtains that have been put in the washing machine. There are a number of reasons why this is a terrible idea.

Firstly, we take many measures to ensure your curtains get as clean as possible without shrinkage or colour loss. Recently we have had to re-wash curtains that have been washed but there is still traces of mould or live mould left on the curtain. We take careful steps to ensure this is eliminated as much as possible on the curtain fabric, and can always remove it from linings. These results are simply unable to be duplicated in a home environment.

Spray on curtain cleaning products contain sodium hypochlorite, aka bleach. If you use products to remove mould, it can result in colour loss. This is one of the more common problems we have seen. We test all fabric before cleaning to be sure of what cleaners can be used with it.

Washing curtains in the washing machine can result in other damage – curtains need to be handled with care, especially older fabrics. It is expensive getting a curtain re-lined due to rips – we take extra care in preventing this from happening.

In addition to the above – most of the time, they will come out of the machine wrinkly and look terrible, no matter the fabric type. Our service ensures they look great and ‘like new’ as they can when returned to you (and of course, fresh and clean).

Don’t make the same mistake, call us (the experts) instead.

What do do you recall about the FOOD served on Christmas day when you were YOUNG?
MINE was in the dining room with a white tablecloth, mum serving chicken [we had not invented turkey in the olden days] and all the fresh veges dad brought in from the garden.
Desert was plum duff, with a SILVER coin slid in underneath, cream and custard and huge piles of garden ripe strawberries and cream.
We drank Curly Top fizzy drink.
Boxing day we headed off on holiday.

"I am a special dude who has had an unusual start to my rehoming journey. I am completely deaf but that doesn't stop me having a great time! I am a fun, loveable, boy who has stolen the hearts of everyone at the centre. I am looking for an experienced owner, who has a suitable property for me to thrive in. I'm always up for a walk or a game to play, and I love to find things to do and keep active. I am looking for a home with teenagers or adults, and a home without cats or small animals. I am happy to play with other active dogs, and love to be social with both people and dogs. If you are interested in me and my goofy personality - chat to the canine team."

More housing, protecting the environment, more spending on infrastructure or a new Olympic pool in Naenae.
The council is surveying residents to find out what they think council’s priorities should be for the next decade.
Lower Hutt Mayor Campbell Barry says his priority over the next ten years is to get the basics right and increase investment in core infrastructure.
"For me as mayor, investing in basic infrastructure is a key priority for our ten year plan. It’s about ensuring our city has high quality infrastructure that supports people to move around, protect our basic services like water, and enjoy our community facilities like pools and libraries," Campbell Barry said.
Tell us what you would like to see the council do over the next ten years.

Please put NFP if you do not want your comments used in a Stuff story.
