Quake-prone building owner convicted

Council has successfully prosecuted a Lower Hutt company for failing to strengthen a residential building it owns in Petone.

Council has attempted to have the owner strengthen the building for a number of years. The 2016 Kaikoura quake and the growing scientific work around quake-prone buildings, and a lack of action on the owners part, prompted Council to take court action as a last resort.
