TSUNAMI WARNING CANCELLED
The Tsunami warning has been cancelled.

Aftershocks are likely to continue for the next few weeks or months, GNS has some information about what we might expect from the way aftershocks occur. They say it is normal after a quake this size to have aftershocks from the epicentre along the Kaikoura coastline to Cape Campbell.

Remember: If a siren sounds continuously (unlike the fire brigade siren), that is a signal there are instructions for people and they should seek credible sources for information such as the civil defence website, www.getprepared.org.nz... or Council's www.huttcity.govt.nz...

For people living in a tsunami zone any long earthquake (longer than one minute or strong enough that you cannot stand up) may be your only warning - don't wait for sirens or another signal to make the decision to evacuate to higher ground, preferably by foot.

WEATHER WARNING

Heavy rain and strong winds (north west) are forecast for this afternoon through to Tuesday morning. Some things may have been shaken loose so please check and secure anything you can and stay aware - keep an eye on MetService www.metservice.co.nz...

ROADS, TRAINS, BUSES

All our major roads and bridges and State Highways immediately around Lower Hutt are open.
Rail service will resume on Kapiti and Johnsonville lines from Tuesday 15 November. There will be bus replacements on Hutt Valley and Wairarapa lines, due to a damaged pedestrian overbridge at Ava.

Daly Street from Andrews Avenue to High Street is closed, due to risk of falling glass from a building.

The Riverbank Car Park and Block Road are closed from 7pm today Monday 14 November.

The East by West ferries are not running today. There is no replacement shuttle service.

Buses are now operating to timetable, though some delays may still occur.

BUSINESS & BUILDINGS

If you are a tenant of a building that has suffered structural damage please notify the owner in the first instance and then inform Council of the address. We are working as quickly as possible to carry out rapid assessments of high risk buildings and those that have sustained structural damage.

Queensgate is still being assessed by engineers and will be closed Tuesday 15 November.

Some buildings in Lower Hutt CBD are closed due to damage. Central Lower Hutt is otherwise open.

Jackson Street is open for business.

Reconnaissance crews are out checking our main business areas for damage. Glass from buildings has fallen into a number of central-city streets which has been cleaned up.

WATER & POWER

Water is safe to drink including artesian water.

There are a couple of water main bursts. Please report any water problems to Hutt City Council on 04 570 6666 and we will log a job with Wellington Water.

Wellington Water says water treatment plants are functioning properly. There no reports of reservoir damage or bulk supply issues.

Discoloured water issues reported shortly after the quake should be clearing now.

COUNCIL SERVICES

All Hutt City Council pools, libraries, Walter Nash Centre, Community Centres, The Dowse Art Museum and Petone Settlers Museum are closed all day Monday. We expect them to be open tomorrow 15th November, please check Council's website www.huttcity.govt.nz...
