A total of 22 stations like this will be located throughout Wellington, Porirua and the Hutt Valley, providing 20 litres of water per person per day, from 'Day ' should a large earthquake cause damage to the region's water reticulation system.

There will be four stations in Lower Hutt (Korokoro, Lowry Bay, Days Bay and Wainuiomata) which will supply water to multiple distribution points throughout the city. You can read more about the stations here: wellingtonwater.co.nz...

The network is the result of a partnership between Wellington, Porirua and Hutt Valley councils and central government, with $6 million contributed by the councils and $6 million from the government.

Mr Bassett is chairman of the Wellington Water Committee and Mr Wallace is chairman of the Wellington Regional Emergency Management joint committee.

We will keep you posted when the first of Lower Hutt's four stations is opened and you will be able to check it out for yourself.
