The Lower Hutt CBD is set to be very busy over the next few days
Following the massive turnout for HighLight: Carnival of Lights last weekend, tomorrow we’ve got the opening of H&M, Firefly Cinemas holding a Halloween drive-in movie series (Thurs, Fri and Sat evening) at Riverbank Car Park, the annual Hazardous Waste Collection on Sunday at Riverbank Car Park and of course the always popular Riverbank Saturday Market. It’s all happening in the Hutt!
If you’re coming to the CBD over coming days, especially during the weekend, please expect there to be lots more traffic on the roads and for there to be delays. It’s awesome that Lower Hutt is attracting new business and events but it does mean during opening days and event weekends we need to expect more cars and for it to take longer to get around. Over the next few days there will also be restrictions on access to the northern end of the Riverbank Car Park because of the events happening.
This weekend is a perfect time to consider public transport or parking a little further away than you usually do and walking to where you need to go…especially if this beautiful weather holds out.
Because H&M is set to be so popular, Queensgate Shopping Centre has also put special measures in place to keep cars moving in their car park but due to the buzz around H&M there may be unavoidable congestion. You can follow the Queensgate facebook page for shopping updates.
Please take care on the roads, be patient and make the most of being part of a city where things are happening.
Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.3% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
25.4% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
15.3% ... It is complicated
