For a Zone 1 and 4 pass you get free bus use in Zone 4. So everyone say taking their car down to the Petone train station and back again everyday you could save on petrol, finding a park, vehicle wear and tear and the risk of getting your car damaged or broken into and take the bus! Also as a bonus you help avert some impact of climate change (the reason I’m posting this). Do you have a second car purely for getting to the train? Ditch it and save heaps on insurance, running costs, WOF and Rego etc! :)

I only realised this recently, I had been paying for it since they changed the fare structure!

Join us this weekend to celebrate heritage with an exhibition called ‘Architectural and Social Upheaval in the Hutt’.

The exhibition and series of talks captures the work of a group of Lower Hutt architects, an artist, musician and motorbike rider who lived and worked in Lower Hutt in the 1950s. It was an era of radical and exciting new ideas in the Hutt - buildings were curved and set in park like settings and the social scene was alive with new bands, motorbikes and the milk bar social scene.

Some of Wellington's bus drivers will strike from tomorrow, but exactly how many are set to down tools remains unclear. The routes which will be affected are operated by Tranzurban, which has been unable to reach a collective agreement with the Tramways Union.

How can I check?

- Public transport provider Metlink is also unsure how the strike will play out, and is urging commuters to check their bus route before they travel. They can do this on the Metlink app or website, which the organisation says will be kept as up-to-date as possible throughout the strike. Alternatively call the Metlink team on 0800 801 700.

- The only Wellington City routes operated by Tranzurban are numbers 1, 7, 17, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 29. The rest of Wellington City routes are operated by NZ Bus, whose drivers will not strike despite a deal not being reached there either. Full list of affected lines here.

While the strike is set down to end on November 30, union secretary Kevin O'Sullivan says that was an arbitrary date chosen only because strike notices legally required an end date.
