HUMP OVERKILL

Palmer Crescent in Hetetaunga is a street with problems manufactured by the UHCC.
A few years ago the road was resealed to such a poor degree that the surface was worse after the resealing than prior. Some improvement was eventually made - but only to part of the road.

Now there was a decision to place road humps along the road in an effort to slow traffic - not that I have ever witnessed an issue of undue speed by traffic nor any overload of traffic despite a school sited at the northern entrance to the road.

Not just one or two humps have been laid but five.

It's just patently ridiculous and if Palmer Crescent needs all these humps to slow traffic to 15-20kph, what's to stop road humps emerging in a majority of streets in Upper Hutt apart from financial considerations. Luckily the UHCC has put up rates to pay for the Palmer Cres project.

Te Raukura ki Kāpiti, Coastlands Theatre
Saturday 24 August 2024 6:00pm – 8:00pm

This is the essence of the musical South Pacific - the story, the singers and the orchestra. Come and hear such favourites as "Gonna Wash That Man", "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Bali Ha'i".

The show is a 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, set on an island in the South Pacific during World War II. It was based on a series of short stories by James Michener.

The musical was a massive hit, and the songs continue to be popular. Ours is an semi-staged performance. Mainly, that means no scenery and dancing. You still get narration, the songs, and a full orchestra. The singers are from Victoria University Music Department, and the music is played by Hutt Valley Orchestra under the baton of Mark Carter.

For accessibility seating enquiries, please email kiaora@teraukura.nz or call (04)9740535 during office hours.

The Brewtown, Upper Hutt new year eve party is heading for its fourth or fifth year and has been a great success apart from toilet issues.
Good bands, good food, great craft beer, great venue, good atmosphere and little or no need for police action.
But from $40 per person in past years for non-VIP entry fee it has jumped to $119 right now and shortly will incrrase for "late bookers" to $139.
Nothing much has changed in band/entertainment quality to warrant such a huge increase. And from being under cover fir the first 3-4 years the show is now fully outdoors which subjects revellers to any conditions.
Two years ago the weather was coldish and breezy.

Ok only halfway through but to me the 2024 Paris Olympics is a disapointment for me as far as NZ is concerned.
Maybe we have been overrated so that expectations and hype have not come to fruition.

At Tokyo 3 years ago we won 20 medals covering 11 sports. There is no way we are going ro match this in Paris. Our .most gold at an Olympics has been 8 with 7 at Tokyo 2021.

The French have done an amazing job with these Olympics. The opening ceremony was outstanding and truly unique. The crowds have turned up - and how with 75000 daily watching the track &field and at a different stadium over 65000 daily in the stands for the rugby. The Tower has been an inspirational focal point and the standatds in the sports to date apart from skateboarding has been higher than ever before despite lack of world records esp in swimming. The shallow watered pool has been partially blamed for this.

The French are not perfect however and the incredible barring of a great and celebrated athlete from competing in the semt final of the 100m women will never be forgotten.
