A product of Naenae College, she later settled in Gisborne, where she was a social worker.
Her sporting CV includes representing New Zealand in touch, softball, rugby and rugby league.
Initially, her sporting success came in softball, playing for New Zealand and helping her club and Hutt Valley win numerous titles.
League was however her first love and in 2000 Hina was named MVP at the first women’s World Cup, where New Zealand beat Great Britain 26-4.
She was prominent in the Kiwi Ferns retaining the World Cup in 2005 and 2008.
In the 2008 defence, Hina was named MVP for a second time. In the final, New Zealand thrashed Australia 34-0, with Hina scoring two tries and kicking three conversions.
In 2010, she achieved arguably her greatest achievement by being selected to play for the Black Ferns at the World Cup.
She became the first female to win rugby and league World Cups.
Towards the end of her career, Hina was diagnosed with kidney disease and she was unable to fulfill her dream of playing Sevens at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
In 2015, she was inducted as a Hutt Valley Sports Awards legend.

They are so metallic and shiny that both my husband and I thought this was a railway spike holding up the wood on the edge of the step, then Chris said "wait, that spike has little hands."

My family and I have recently moved and between the move and having to travel frequently for work, the cats don't seem to be very happy and haven't adjusted to a new neighbourhood with lots of other cats around. We would like a home for them
where someone is able to be there for them.

"It was both beautiful and sobering coming across a nesting kereru (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae), aka wood pigeon, couple yesterday - I was following a grey warbler at the time. They had set up their twiggy nest in the crown of a punga tree.
The couple were so intensely private I felt like an atheist that had accidentally stumbled into a church or a mosque - big and bumbling and out of place, but in awe and still having a grotesque fascination for the stain-glass windows. I took my photos and quietly left."

Brown, 3 seater and 2 seater to give away either together or separately. Both have damage to the sides from the cat scratching them but lots of wear left everywhere else. Want these gone asap but cannot deliver - have to be picked up.

They are quite hard to spot so you have to get your eye in - check along the strip behind the Settlers Museum. It is important not to disturb the nesting sites around Eastbourne and Wainuiomata - these are roped off, and definitely please keep your dog on a lead in the middle section of Petone Beach (as all the signage where the dotterels like to hang out says!). Not going inside the roped off areas at nesting sites is really important - the chicks and eggs are so well camouflaged that it would be easy to step on a nest before you realised it was there. Unfortunately these little guys haven't had a lot of luck with their nesting with successive generations being wiped out by predators (usually domestic cats, but sometimes hedgehogs and rats in the Hutt), they are now listed as Nationally vulnerable and their numbers are declining. I'd hate to see them go extinct, which could happen in my lifetime if we don't take better care around their nesting sites. You might notice that some of the birds that turn up on Petone Beach have little tags on them - this is so researchers can track their movements and know which birds are successfully breeding. It's how we know that some of these little guys like to go spend the New Zealand winter in places like New Caledonia. The nest photo is taken when I was helping the Mainland Island Restoration Operation (MIRO) with their monitoring programme, but the rest were taken on Petone Beach just yesterday - they don't nest there fortunately, they just come around to Petone to feed.
