20 cm of sea level rise caused much greater damage to homes
After the January 5 storm surge damaged houses and roads in Thames quite a few people were still not willing to accept that climate change and sealevel rise had made things worse.
This extract from a "Years of Living Dangerously" video shows how just 20 cm of sea level rise over the last century put thousands of additional New York homes into the path of Super Storm Sandy. Climate change and existing sea level rise is already causing much greater damage to coastal property and infrastructure. Scientists tell us we will have a further 30 – 40 cm of sea level rise in the next 30 to 40 years. Unless we face up to these issues now Thames is going to face severe coastal flooding in the very near future.
