A public forum is being held to discuss the Invercargill City Councils proposal to sell off the Teviot Street Reserve (UPDATE)
This is the first of two meetings:
Meeting One: Is for all interested parties to get together and think about/discuss the dreams and aspirations of the community for the use of the reserve. If money was no object and you could do anything with this space what would it be? How could the Teviot street reserve community get the best use out of this green space?
Meeting to be held
Date: Wednesday 8th February
Time: 6 pm
Place: Teviot St Reserve Scout Hall
If you can’t make this meeting and still wish to be involved, please email through your ideas and I can present them for you. I will keep you informed. Contact: Kaye Fraser email: saveteviotreserve@gmail.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The invite extends to all interested parties from residents near and far including different organisations, as well as those passionate about the cause. This cause has brought our community together and this allows us the opportunity to show the council that we see the reserve to be a vital part of the betterment of our life style, community and ongoing well-being.
Please come prepared to share your thoughts and ideas with us, we welcome children (because sometimes kids have the best ideas) and any person that has an interest in saving the reserve for future generations. I will also present some new information that will help us all in trying to stop the reserve status from being lifted.
Meeting Two: Do you need help putting together your submission? Unsure how to tell your story? Never written a submission? Then we will help you by guiding you through the process of writing a submission so you feel comfortable writing your own. We will also look at finalising the co-designed community idea/proposal to use as part of our larger community submission.
Date and time to be confirmed

Performers for the Southland Buskers Festival will descend on Invercargill at the beginning of February and those working behind the scenes say they are looking forward to the eighth annual festival.
Festival organiser Jodi Wright said many of the performers jumped at the opportunity to head to Invercargill because of the beautiful Queens Park location and the chance to be at the bottom of New Zealand.

Here's a few things you can do to get you started:
- use the Neighbours Directory to find neighbours on your street.
- introduce yourself on Neighbourly to those living in your neighbourhood. Just a few words about yourself and what brought you here.
- Give something away or sell something! A Neighbourly exchange gives you a chance to meet someone new.
- just head out the door and knock on someone else's!

To My concerned Neighbours and wider community
I have been very busy working with different organisationsover the last week since our meeting so here is what has been happening and what I have started and found out
The Meeting on Monday night
We had the southland times and the Mayor as well as City Councillor Lindsay Thomas all attend the meeting with about 30 other residents and concerned members of the wider community, i receive emails or calls from 5 other residents that were unable to make the meeting.
The Information provided by Lindsay was that the Council only have been told that a developer has approached them asking if he could buy the land this is all they knew at the time.
On The 31/1/17 there is a council meeting and that meeting is now being made an open meeting so we can attend if we like, at this meeting the council has asked the developer to give more information on what his plans are for the land should the RESVRE status be lifted.
So this is the main point WE ALL NEED TO PUT IN SUBMISSIONS TO STOP THE RESERVE BEING LIFTED. If we stop the reserve status from being lifted then the land cannot and will not be sold to any one nor the developer
Both the Mayor and Lindsay said that there is no way it would become Industrial land they would not allow that to happen at all.
Since the meeting I have meet with Darryn Ludlow Deputy Mayor and he is willing to support us with not wanting to see the removal of the reserve status
He has given me good ideas and feedback on how the processworks and what we need to do as a group to make a clear statement that our community is all in this together
We all need to get as many submissions from individuals as possible and look at putting them under one organisational name, this shows that as a community we are all behind each other and not just 1 person, we all have a right to speak at the meeting and read our submissions to the council when this meeting is held after the submissions are in on the 3/3/17
I can also speak at the meeting on behalf of the group and those who may not want to speak at the meeting, but we will need the numbers there at that meeting to show that we are in this together.
I have a meeting on Monday with Sport southland who will help with the writing of submissions also provide photo copying for us and come up with some ideas to put on the submissions like, if we had a dream would we use the reserve for, together with sport southland and the YMCA and other community groups in the area we are arranging another meeting to do the following :
1. come up with as many practical uses for the land for our submissions
2. help people write submission
3. meet other groups that all share the same idea as us in saving the reserve
4. make a plan to take to council at the town meeting
I am also meeting with Councillor Lindsay again to get the information on the land, and what to expect at the meetings coming up.
I have been given information that the land it is covered under the Sports Fields Reserves Omnibus plan- 2014 this plan is for a period of 10 years
In the plan the sections are already divided and have been for some time
The reserve was set aside by the Otago ProvincialGovernment in 1874 and in 1963 it was vested as a recreation reserve
I still have a lot of information on what we need to do as a group and as individuals and look forward to meeting with you and any one that wants to save our reserve from a developer
Please know i will be in touch again for the next meeting that I am hoping will be the 7th or the 8th of February.
Any other questions Ideas or information please feel free to contact me.

I had a meeting today with the deputy Mayor Darren Ludlow
After talking with him he has said we would be better putting our submission in together under a group like save our reserve
Every one still has their own submission how ever they all go in together it shows a neighbourhood has come together to protect our reserve and carry a more weight than one on its own
If we all attend the meeting to present our submission we all may speak or one or 2 speak on behalf of the whole group with all people attending supporting the speakers it sends a powerful message to the council that tighter we stand on this matter
I have extra forms should you need them for friends family work collages any one who wants to protect the reserve
