(Allium ursinum) I want to plant some in my garden, but I can't find a single retailer who sells them in NZ! Closest I can find are Lithuania and US (and I'm not sure if seeds would even be allowed through biosecurity at the border).
Wild garlic is an AWESOME salad plant. It comes up early in spring, way before other leafy greens, and makes for healthy, tasty smoothies, salads and pestos. It's the salad of my childhood, but now it's apparently considered a weed in NZ (!?) so there's nowhere I can buy the plants and I can't even find seeds for growing it in my garden.
Or do you maybe know where it grows naturally around Invercargill area? I could harvest some bulbs, bring them into my planter box and let them seed next year.
It's just the best, the tastiest salad plant!
With many thanks,
Maria
PS. And just to make sure no-one gets confused about this: I am looking for wild GARLIC (Allium ursinum), not wild onion!
