The festival has been offering staples like huhu grubs, whitebait, snails and mountain oysters – also known as sheep's testicles – for 30 years.
There was uncertainty over its future after Destination Westland – a Westland District Council-controlled organisation – announced it was winding down its events department, having taken over the running of Wildfoods from the council in 2018.
Westland mayor Bruce Smith said councillors decided, during a public-excluded part of an extraordinary meeting, Destination Westland would continue to run the March event.

The bridge at Franz Josef, which is a vital link for the tourism-dependent West Coast, washed away after hours of severe rain battered the region on March 26.
It was reopened following a frantic 18-day effort by contractors, the Defence Force and NZ Transport Agency staff to rebuild it.
However, it is set to close again on Sunday night and will remain closed for most of May as final construction takes place.

This month is all about supporting our young people, to encourage and empower them to not only be the change-makers and community builders of tomorrow but also the best versions of themselves. To listen to their perspective and remember that it’s not just about what we can teach them, but what lessons they can teach us. After all, the recipe for creating healthy, happy children includes a lot of the same ingredients for building safer, more resilient and connected communities.
