Cancer Society fundraisers are out and about...

Natasha Judd from Cancer Society Northland

Cancer Society fundraisers are out and about in different Whangarei neighbourhoods at the moment. They are wearing yellow tabards and navy caps – both with the Cancer Society logo on and they also have photo ID. Please say “Hi” if you see them!

Despite all the modern technology available today, talking directly with people about the need for cancer services and finding better cancer treatments is one of the most effective ways to inspire people to become a regular donor.
Cancer Society receives no Government funding for its services so relies entirely on the generosity of the community to provide crucial help to cancer patients and families.
For more details of the areas our fundraisers are visiting and why Cancer Society is fundraising in this way click here. The fundraisers are carrying IPads so that people can securely sign up for an ongoing donation – for security reasons they aren’t able to accept cash donations.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
