Residents urged to conserve water as dry season begins. How will you save water?
Record high water use and low rain forecasts has promoted Hastings District Council to ask residents to make "serious efforts" to conserve water.
Last weekend's water use from the town supply which feeds Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere was the highest in five years.
The community was asked to make "serious efforts to conserve water, particularly outdoors".
This means putting off topping up swimming pools unless absolutely necessary, not washing cars, letting the lawn dry off and limiting watering of the vegetable garden to dusk when the water can be of the most use to plants.
