Two fictional missing kayakers had local first responders out in force at Waimarama Beach on Sunday.
The kayakers were at the centre of a joint training exercise for Police, Coastguard and the Hawke’s Bay Surf Life Saving (SLS) Emergency Call-out squad.
Constable Andrew Walker said the annual training exercise gives our teams the opportunity to improve and practice our operating procedures and gives new crew members a chance to work on their skills in a realistic emergency situation.
An incident management team made up of Police Search and Rescue, Coastguard and SLS members ran the search.
A further 25 personnel from the SLS Emergency Call-out squad and Coastguard were on the water around Waimarama in five inflatable rescue boats and the Coastguard rigid hull inflatable Celia Knowles.
Constable Walker said it was the perfect time to remind people of the basic rules they should follow.
- Let someone know where you are going and when you plan to be home.
- Check the marine weather forecast
- Take two waterproof ways to call for help
- Wear your lifejacket
- Avoid alcohol

Hi there Hawkes' Bay People – twelve people have signed up in response to this notice - thank you. We still need another 46 volunteers for HASTINGS. We need 22 for this weekend and 24 for 13-14 November.

Could you please give two hours of your time? The web site will close off later this week, so if you can help please reply to this message and I will contact you. (Note: the photo says "Click Here" - that link does not work.

Also, please ask your friends and family to lend a helping hand – men are more than welcome – remember – men can get breast cancer too! Also you can bring your dog and / or your children / grandchildren.

I look forward to working with you all – in the pink: a scarf, a skirt, earrings, a whimsy, a wig, a t-shirt/jacket/jumper, pink feather boa, pink bowler hat – some / any / all of those!

Regards
Susie McCutcheon

Why not treat yourself to a bloke’s day out for a grooming WOF? Just be wary of the barbershop – between the bay rum oil, hot towels, banter, and leather chairs, you won’t want to leave!

Bevis, a resident at Ryman’s Anthony Wilding Village, recently received a gentleman’s makeover. The day began at the barbershop where Bevis and his barber Kohl shared plenty of laughs. Next up, a personal stylist helped Bevis select clothes he looked and felt great in. Being pampered isn’t the norm for Bevis but based on his smile, we’re confident he loved every minute.

The seat is a marked from over zealous cleaning but apart from that it flushes and works well. Includes overflow pipe as pictured. Right hand lower inlet. Has been thoroughly cleaned with disinfectant just needs Jiffing. Pick up in Sylvan Rd, Parkvale.
