As today is a public holiday, I headed off to the Hydrotherapy Pool at 9AM, even though their website says that it opens at 7AM on public holidays.

Like the other people there, I went home disappointed. We'd all looked at their website, but apparently, after an hour of calling council and the nice lady there doing some ringing around, we discover that they are not only putting up their prices; they are also changing their hours.

Wouldn't it be lovely if they saw fit to let the public know? Judging by the confused lifeguard that also turned up, they may want to let their staff know as well.

What local acts would you like to see on stage in the Waikato Regional Theatre?
Kiwi musician Stan Walker says there are "rough diamonds" in the hood in Hamilton, and the theatre plans could give them an opportunity.
Walker grew up in Hamilton - once attending Fairfield Intermediate and Hamilton Boys' High - and was back in town on Tuesday.
As well as hosting a workshop at Zeal, he gave a plug for $73.9 million plans for a Waikato Regional Theatre.
"I reckon there's a lot of rough diamonds here waiting to be given an opportunity," he said.
"The hood is where you're going to get the most talented people. They just haven't been exposed to [arts] like everyone else has."

There's an "apparent inequality" in a change to how Hamilton City Council calculates rates, according to finance chairman Garry Mallett.
What do you think about the $500 Uniform Annual General Charge (UAGC)?
Council intended it to smooth the transition of Hamilton's rating system from land value to capital value.
It generally applies once per property, but if council finds you have more than one SUIP - Separately Used or Inhabited Part of a rating unit - you will get a charge for each one.
Mallett says that is bad news for landlords of high density apartments and has got investors pulling out sinks and developers removing ensuites from plans to avoid big increases.
