There’s no clear evidence of culpability for the orange sediment discharge to the Ōhinemuri River other than it being the result of mining activity, according to Waikato Regional Council.
But there are signs that vegetation growth had created a dam behind which sediment had built up.

While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.
